【Feature】TV Drama “Forest” (2025, TV Asahi)
— Main Floral Set Design by Ikebana Artist BIEI —
Ikebana artist BIEI was in charge of the main floral design and direction for the acclaimed Japanese drama Forest, broadcast on TV Asahi from January to March 2025.
Starring Manami Higa and Takanori Iwata, Forest captivated viewers with its multilayered narrative that explored themes of secrets, love, and redemption, establishing itself as one of the most talked-about dramas of the season. With its refined cinematography and emotional depth, the series consistently ranked among the top TV shows across platforms and was hailed as “a new Sunday-night classic.”
【装飾の舞台裏】
美榮が担当したのは、ヒロイン・楓の実家「ブランフォレストグループ」本邸に設えられたリビング・ロビー装花。ドラマの美術チームと綿密に打ち合わせを重ね、物語の「沈黙と感情」を空間で表現することを目指しました。
色彩は白とグリーンを基調に。「真実」を包み隠す白と、内なる葛藤や再生を象徴する緑を対比的に配置。
造形はアシンメトリーと余白感を重視。カメラアングルや照明との調和を図りながら、3ヶ月にわたり姿を変えず空気感を演出するよう設計。
美榮独自の「静寂の中に問いを宿す」美意識が、物語全体の余韻に寄与しました。
【Behind the Scenes of the Floral Art】
BIEI designed and installed the floral arrangements in the main residence of the BranForest Group, the home of the female lead character, Kaede. Through close collaboration with the production and art departments, the goal was to create a spatial expression of silence, tension, and emotional depth.
Color Palette:Primarily white and green—white symbolizing hidden truths and green representing growth, fragility, and rebirth.
Composition: Asymmetrical balance and intentional use of negative space allowed the florals to resonate with both still and dramatic scenes. The pieces were carefully crafted to maintain their shape and presence over three months of filming.
This work exemplified BIEI’s philosophy of “designing silence”—imbuing space with unspoken questions and layered emotion.
【華道と映像美術の新たな融合へ】
本作での経験は、華道が”空間言語”として映像作品に貢献できる可能性を大きく広げるものでした。
時間が止まったかのような美しい構図、俳優の感情を引き立てる余白、そして場の気配まで含めて「花をデザインする」表現は、まさに現代華道の新境地。
美榮の作品は、「装飾」ではなく「感情装置」。装花が単なる背景ではなく、登場人物たちの沈黙を語る“共演者”としての役割を果たしました。
【Ikebana Meets Cinematic Art Direction】
Forest opened new territory for BIEI in demonstrating how ikebana can function as a language of atmosphere and emotional resonance in film and television. Rather than serving as mere decoration, the florals became an unspoken co-actor, heightening the inner worlds of characters and the subtext of each scene.
BIEI’s ikebana is not ornamental—it’s an emotional apparatus, amplifying human presence while preserving elegant restraint.
